SVC—Your Best Resource for Education on Vacuum Coating Technologies

A strong commitment to education is part of SVC’s charter. The SVC’s broad Education Program includes a comprehensive list of short courses on the fundamentals of vacuum coating and related technologies, a unique self-paced on-line course, and special opportunities supporting students and the future of vacuum coating.

SVC Short Courses
A comprehensive series of short courses and workshops have been developed by the Society of Vacuum Coaters. The courses stress operator and technical staff training, and include:

Whether you take advantage of the more than two dozen courses offered at the annual TechCon, or you decide to bring courses to your location, you can be assured of high-quality, practical courses taught by recognized professionals in the vacuum coating community.

Technical Conference Short Courses
Courses presented at the annual Technical Conference complement each other and the Technical Program. Nearly the entire roster of SVC short courses is presented at each annual TechCon.

On-Site Short Courses
By bringing short courses to your company or to the meeting of another organization, the SVC On-Site Education Program provides a vital opportunity for development, keeping up to date on technical knowledge, and learning practical solutions to everyday problems.

By hosting a course, you can keep your staff informed about new developments and technologies and elevate their professional enthusiasm.

Distance Learning Course
The Society also has developed an on-line distance learning program in conjunction with the University of Delaware. These programs are advertised on a worldwide basis to members and non-members in SVC publications and on the SVC Web Site.

This learning program is delivered through the distance learning system–UD Online.

Student Programs & Special Benefits
SVC is committed to fostering a bright future for the vacuum coating community. The Society brings special scholarship and participation opportunities to students of vacuum coating, in addition to substantial discounts on membership, TechCon attendance, course registration fees.

SVC Student Sponsorship Program
The SVC Student Sponsorship Program is devoted to being a link between students and the more than 1,500 professionals who attend the Annual SVC Technical Conference. The Student Sponsorship Program provides full travel support and conference registration fees to selected students who are required to make a technical presentation at an SVC TechCon and prepare a manuscript for the Technical Conference Proceedings.

SVC Foundation and Student Scholarship Program
The Society of Vacuum Coaters proudly announces the formation of a new foundation. The Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation, Inc. (SVC Foundation) supports the charitable, educational, and scientific activities of the Society of Vacuum Coaters. The SVC Foundation and Scholarship program provides a yearly stipend to further the education of individuals entering or already engaged in an undergraduate or graduate course of study important to vacuum coating technology. The Foundation is now seeking donations from corporations and individuals to support its programs. The SVC Board of Directors approved a fund to match donations received.

Educational Guides to Vacuum Deposition Technology
Written by SVC Technical Director, Donald M. Mattox, this publication contains two-page, stand-alone guides on different aspects of the equipment, technology, and products associated with thin-film processing by vacuum coating processes. New guides are added annually. Click here for a current list of the Guides. Selected guides are published in Spanish and in other publications with the permission of the Society.
